Teaching is close to librarianship, right?

It’s hard to turn a job down, especially when you’re fresh out of school after six years. So, I’ve turned to teaching at a college! Despite spending the last year in library school, I am now putting the other degree to use…So, I’ll warn you in advance that my posts will probably take on a more random focus, including libraries, teaching stuff, and just life in general.

More to come in the next few days as I plow through a pile of classroom prep!

What does it all mean?

I’ll begin with the quick and obligatory apology for my lack of bloggery as of late. I’ve been busy with the end of school, which is finally approaching with the conclusion of my guided research project!

Although I’ve been promising myself that I wouldn’t come on here until I was done the paper, I couldn’t resist. I was at work yesterday, reading The Globe and Mail’s bestseller lists for paperback and hardcover fiction and non-fiction. I think it’s always helpful to have an idea of what’s popular because I cannot even count the number of times someone has come in asking for a book “that’s, you know, on that list, in the newspaper.” I was surprised to note (again) that the two top non-fiction hardcovers are God is Not Great, by Christopher Hitchens and The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I am no expert on religion, but I find it disconcerting that there are the top two books right now. So I ask, what does it all mean? Is it perfectly normal that people are always seeking new answers to things they do not fully understand? Are they just good books and I’m missing out? I have no good answers, but something does not settle well with me.

More posts to follow…I’ve been reading Library Journal for fun again ;)

Oh the shame…

Most of you already know, but I shall confess anyway:

I joined Facebook! *sigh*

How the mighty have fallen. I really have nothing to say beyond the fact that it’s been quite fun. I’m discovering all of these professional associations that have groups I can join to connect with people. Oh the possibilities!

Anyway, school is horribly busy right now as the end draws near. I’ll post more when things calm down a bit.
